I have a rare chronic medical problem for which I plan on seeing a specialist to discuss treatment options. I have a PPO plan with $1,500 deductible. I've never hit my deductible before because, outside of this condition, I am perfectly healthy, and living with this chronic condition does not require any kind of expensive treatment or surgery or anything like that. This specialist I plan on seeing will take insurance or cash. I was told the appointment is $400. It would be of no consequence to me to pay $400 cash but that seems a little high to me. Has anyone negotiated the cost of an appointment prior to the actual appointment? I think when I get there they will want payment up front. Should I try and negotiate right then and there? Or try to have them bill me later and then try and negotiate at a later time?
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
